Two relatives of slain Barira Vice Mayor Alexander Tomawis got killed in an ambush by still unidentified armed men in Parang, Maguindanao, Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Raul and Sandiali Tomawis died on the spot because of bullet wounds to the head, Col. Prudencio Asto, public affairs chief of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said.
The two were riding a Toyota Hi-Ace van (WHV-377) in Brgy. Nituan around 2:20 p.m. when fired upon by men on another vehicle, which sped to the west after the incident, Asto said.
Senior Supt. Marcelo Pintac, Maguindanao provincial police director, said several empty shells of an M14 rifle were found at the scene.
“Hindi pa malaman kung anong type ng vehicle ang gamit ng mga suspect, we are still looking for witnesses,” he said.
Raul and Sandiali are both relatives of Barira Vice Mayor Alexander Tomawis, who was shot dead outside his home in Brgy. Bajada, Buhangin district, Davao City, on Nov. 28, 2010, Pintac said.
“Rido ang nakikita natin dito, na possibly ay political and land-related in nature… hindi pa natin masabi kung related dun (killing of Vice Mayor Alexander Tomawis),” the police official added. (John Roson)
