The Philippines is considering taking up China’s intrusions to its claimed territories in the South China Sea with the United Nations after having filed several diplomatic protests, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said.
“Lahat ‘yung mga intrusions na ginagawa ng China sa atin ay binibigyan natin ng pansin by filing the necessary diplomatic protest, this has been done several times already and we feel that we should go to the United Nations for the resolution of the case,” Gazmin said told reporters in Tarlac City.
The Department of Foreign Affairs filed a protest after Chinese navy vessels reportedly “told off” a Philippine oil exploration team at the Reed Bank basin last March.
Another protest was made on June 1 after Filipino fishermen spotted a Chinese maritime survey ship near Philippine-occupied islands on May 21 and 24.
Gazmin said he is checking if a “floating wharf” spotted off Palawan province on July 10, as reported by TV station ABS-CBN, came from China. (John Roson)
