A town councilor in Negros Occidental got killed after being shot by a still unidentified man outside a hotel in Bacolod City on Wednesday morning, police said.

Antonio Gequillana, 40, a councilor of Ilog town which is more than 100 kilometers south of Bacolod, succumbed to five bullet wounds on the body, city police chief Senior Supt. Ricardo dela Paz said in a phone interview.

The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m., shortly after Gequillana had coffee at the Eastview Hotel.

Gequillana, who has a house in the city, was about to board his Toyota Hi-Lux pickup at the hotel’s parking lot.

The gunman approached and shot the councilor repeatedly before fleeing on a motorcycle, according to Dela Paz. (John Roson)
