Policemen arrested a man and his son who posed as New People’s Army (NPA) members to extort money from a gasoline station owner in Madrid, Surigao del Sur.
Rodolfo Pesacales Sr., 42, and his son Rodolfo Jr., 18, were arrested 7 p.m. Wednesday at a bakery in Brgy. Quirino, Caraga regional police spokesman Supt. Martin Gamba said.
Members of the Surigao del Sur Provincial Police and Madrid Police made the arrest after the two recieved the P30,000 marked money from SPO4 Rodel Nuñez, who posed as a pump boy of businessman Bardillo Estal.
The Pesacaleses introduced themselves as NPA members and demanded money from Estal so the latter sought police assistance, Gamba said in a statement.
Investigation, however, revealed that the suspects were not really rebels but members of a crime group involved in robbery and extortion activities, according to the regional police spokesman. (John Roson)
