An elderly balikbayan couple got killed after allegedly being shot by a former househelp inside their home in Solsona, Ilocos Norte, Friday night, police said.

Senior Supt. Marlou Chan, provincial police director, identified the fatalities as Patricio, 78, and Leonila Esteban, 81.

The incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. at the Estebans’ home in Brgy. Manalpac.

The couple “were sitting at their backyard just after eating dinner, when an unidentified gunman fired at them five consecutive times,” Chan said in a text message.

He said police have already filed two counts of murder at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against one Cristobal Pablo for killing the couple.

“The alleged motive of the killing was revenge… ‘Yung suspect katulong ‘yan dati ng mga victims, kaso tinanggal, kinasuhan, at pinakulong,” Chan said.

The Estebans were earlier reported by another media outfit as naturalized American citizens, but Chan denied the information.

“Mga balikbayan sila, Filipino din but matagal sa US nag-stay,” he said. (John Roson)
