Unidentified armed men shot dead a policeman and injured his wife in Buenavista, Quezon, on Friday afternoon, shortly after the couple attended a court hearing.
PO3 Mario Adricula, 48, assigned at the Calabarzon regional police’s Headquarters Support Group, died on the spot because of bullet wounds on the different parts of the body, investigator PO2 Eduardo Oronan said in his report.
Adricula’s wife, Mariafe, was brought to the Magsaysay Memorial District Hospital in Lopez because of a bullet wound on her left arm.
Oronan said the ambush happened around 1 p.m. while Adricula and his wife were passing through Brgy. Hagonghong on board a motorcycle.
The couple were on the way home to Brgy. Poblacion from the San Narciso Municipal Trial Court when they were fired upon by one of two men riding another motorcycle.
Adricula and his wife just came from a hearing of the illegal discharge of firearms case against the policeman, Oronan said.
After shooting the couple, the gunman took Adricula’s caliber-.9mm service pistol and reserve ammunition before fleeing with his cohort, according to the investigator.
Police recovered six fired cartridges and a slug of a caliber-.45 pistol from the crime scene.
A manhunt operation was launched shortly after the incident but the suspects were nowhere to be found. (John Roson)
