Three boy scouts and a security guard got killed while seven other people were injured when a dump truck collided with a passenger bus in Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Director Felicisimo Khu, head of the PNP Directorate for Integrated Police Operations, identified the fatalities as Arnel Yuayan, 38, guard at the Olutanga National High School, and boy scouts Regie Frego, 15, Mark John Agot, 14, and Rolando Sedano, 18.

Yuayan and Frego were killed on the spot while the Agot and Sedano were declared dead in the hospital, Khu said in a text message.

Those injured were brought to different hospitals in nearby Kabasalan town, the police official said.

The incident occurred at Gusawan, Brgy. Monching, around 3 p.m., while two dump trucks owned by the Olutanga municipal government were ferrying the boy scouts to Ipil.

One of the trucks “sideswiped” an incoming Rural Transit Inc. (RTI) bus (body no. 9164), Khu said.

“The two trucks were allegedly racing against each other, the bus went off the road to evade the leading dump truck but was sideswiped by the second dump truck which was trying to overtake the first,” Khu said, citing information from the RTI management.

All drivers are presently detained at the Siay Police Station for investigation, the police official said. (John Roson)
