A former soldier working as a security officer for the local government of Carmen, Agusan del Norte, got killed in an ambush Monday morning, police said.
Antonio Untay, 58, a former Philippine Army member, succumbed to bullet wounds on the different parts of the body, Caraga regional police spokesman Supt. Martin Gamba said.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. while Untay was on his way home from the Carmen Municipal Hall.
Untay was passing through Sitio Baylanon, Brgy. Cahayagan, onboard his motorcycle when an unidentified man shot him repeatedly, Gamba said.
Responding policemen found at the scene 12 cartridges of a caliber-.45 pistol and a caliber-.45 pistol with seven live ammunition, still tucked at Untay’s waist.
Local police are still trying to determine the assailant’s identity and motive, Gamba said. (John Roson)
