Authorities have ruled out politics as the motive for the killing of Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar’s brother and his wife.

“We already ruled out na may politics na involved… wala po kaming nakikitang connection. In terms of politics, walang (kaaway ang victims),” Supt. Allan Nazarro, Isabela City police chief, said in a phone interview.

Nazarro, however, declined to give more details as the case is now being handled by a task force, of which the Isabela City Police is just a member.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Alex Lineses activated the task group shortly after armed men shot the lady governor’s brother, Engr. Basser Jainuddin, and his wife Amina in front of the Basilan State College in Isabela City on Monday night.

“Considering na ‘yung asawa ng kapatid (ni Gov. Akbar) is also a barangay chairwoman, kinonsider na high-profile ‘yung case,” Nazarro said.

A police source, meanwhile, said among the several angles being looked into is a reported quarrel between Amina and another wife of Jainuddin.

“Nag-away sila nung isang asawa, nagkaroon one instance na pinuntahan daw ‘yung babae, may threat… ‘yun ang pinakamalakas (na angle) sa ngayon,” said the source, who requested anonymity for lack of authority to speak on the matter.

“We are still exploring all possible angles,” Nazarro said when asked to comment on the source’s information. (John Roson)
