Five people got killed and 38 others were injured on their way home from a wedding when the truck they were riding on fell into a ravine in Bauko, Mt. Province, Saturday night, police said.
Superintendent Engelbert Soriano, Cordillera regional police spokesman, identified the fatalities as Efren Palag-ok Bocasan, Feliza Lagenio, Salvador Palag-ok, Caroline Lartec, and Dominga Angdasan, all of Brgy. Gensadan, Bauko.
Those injured were taken to different hospitals in Mt. Province, Benguet, and Baguio City, Soriano said in a text message.
The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. along the portion of the Halsema Highway at Sitio Lukib, Brgy. Monamon Sur.
The privately-owned Elf truck, driven by Tomas Magadia, was ferrying 43 people from a wedding in La Trinidad, Benguet, back to Brgy. Gensadan, when it fell into a ravine that is about 80 meters deep, Soriano said.
The cause of the incident was not immediately known, but Magadia voluntarily surrendered to policemen in the area, Soriano said. (John Roson)
