Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members burned heavy equipment and disarmed a security guard in Bansalan, Davao del Sur, on Friday night, the military said.
Colonel Leopoldo Galon, Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman, said six suspected rebels burned a grader, backhoe, and roadroller owned by CNQC Co. at Brgy. Dolo around 11:30 p.m.
The company’s security guard, Marlon Auza, was also disarmed of his caliber-.38 revolver before the perpetrators fled southward on two motorcycles, Galon said in a text message.
CNQC is constructing a portion of the Bansalan-Makilala Highway, a project initiated by Rep. Marc Cagas, according to the regional military spokesman.
The 39th Infantry Battalion and the Davao del Sur Provincial Police are contacting the CNQC management to determine if the company had recieved extortion demands from the NPA, Galon said.
“However, rivalry with other contractors is also being eyed as possible motive,” he said. (John Roson)
