Three people, including a village official, were injured when an improvised explosive planted by suspected Abu Sayyaf members went off in Patikul, Sulu, on Tuesday, a police official said.
Ahamadul Akjam, 40, a kagawad of Brgy. Timpook, and Nurhussin Ladja, 28, are being treated at the Sulu Provincial Hospital for blast injuries and shrapnel wounds on the face and body, respectively, Dir. Felicisimo Khu, chief of the PNP Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Western Mindanao, said in a text message Tuesday night.
Alah Akjam, 54, was also taken to the same hospital for a “minor injury” and was later allowed to go home, Khu said.
The explosion occurred around 7:10 a.m. at Sitio Kaban-Kaban, Brgy. Timpook, where all of the victims reside.
The explosive was planted by suspected Abu Sayyaf members who were responsible for kidnapping Indian national Biju Veetil last June 22, Khu said. (John Roson)
