Unidentified armed men shot dead an official of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) in Lucena City, Quezon, on Tuesday morning, police said.
Nicetas Pujanes, the PCA’s provincial coconut development manager for Batangas, succumbed to multiple bullet wounds, PO2 Jefferson Tamaray, investigator of the Lucena City Police said in his report.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. while the 62-year-old Pujanes was driving his Mitsubishi pick-up (SDN-200) along Bocohan Road in Brgy. Isabang.
Pujanes, a resident of Capistrano Subdivision in the city, was managing a right turn at the intersection of the Bocohan Road and Maharlika Highway when two men on a motorycle came from behind his vehicle.
As the motorcycle approached the side of the pick-up’s cockpit, the backrider drew a caliber-.45 pistol and shot Pujanes continuously, Tamaray said.
Despite his wounds, Pujanes managed to maneuver his vehicle across the intersection and stop near an eatery, where he expired, according to the investigator.
Responding policemen found at the scene two fired bullets and four cartridge cases of a caliber-.45 pistol.
As of this writing, police are tracking down the suspects who are said to have fled towards the direction of Arias Tayabas and Sariaya.
Checkpoints were set up at all “strategic exit points” to intercept the suspects while a police task group was formed to further investigate the incident. (John Roson)
