A soldier got killed while three others were injured in a clash with suspected New People’s Army members in Lupon, Davao Oriental, on Tuesday afternoon, the military said Wednesday.

Colonel Leopoldo Galon, Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman, identified the fatality as Pfc. Marlo Basadre, of the 26th Infantry Battalion.

Those injured, identified only as Pfcs. Semacio, Bonete, and Daluz, have been taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City, Galon said in a text message.

The clash started at Sitio Kinawasan, Brgy. San Isidro, around 2:30 p.m. and lasted for almost two hours, according to the regioonal military spokesman.

Members of the 26th IB’s Alpha Company encountered about 60 rebels led by Jordan Donilo, Galon said. (John Roson)
