A mine inspector of Australian-backed Philsaga Mining Corp. got killed after being shot by a still unidentified assailant in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, police said.
Rodgen Conejar, 57, died on the spot due to three bullet wounds to the body, Caraga regional police spokesman Supt. Martin Gamba said.
Conejar, a mine monitoring inspector at Philsaga, was riding his motorcycle at Sitio Malihog, Brgy. Bunawan Brook, around 6:30 a.m. when shot several times.
The suspect, who wore a red helmet, immediately fled on red Honda CBR motorcycle, Gamba said.
Responding policemen found at the crime scene two empty shells of a caliber-.9mm pistol.
Philsaga, the operating arm of Australian firm Medusa Mining Ltd. in the country, operates a gold mine and mill site in Surigao del Sur. (John Roson)
