Armed robbers shot dead five persons inside a store in Senator Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat, Saturday morning, a military official said.

Brigadier General Leo Ferrer, commander of the Army 601st Brigade based in Tacurong City, said some 20 bonnet-wearing men raided a store at Sitio (sub-village) Bagang-bagang, Barangay (village) Midtungok, around 3:30 a.m.

Killed were Julie, 47; Josephine, 45, Jonathan, and Jerson, all surname Pegurak, and Benjamin Pelitro.

“The victims were lying face down when killed,” Ferrer said.

The assailants also took two chainsaws, P40,000 cash and groceries before leaving the crime scene, an initial report from the Central Mindanao regional police said.

Authorities recovered 62 empty shells and three live ammunition for caliber-.30 garand and M16 rifles, the report said.

Members of the Army 46th Infantry Battalion and the Senator Ninoy Aquino Police have been sent to pursue the suspects, Ferrer said. (John Roson)
