Ten people were injured when a speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) sidewiped a passenger jeepney along the Maharlika Highway in Atimonan, Quezon, on Friday, police said.

Injured were jeepney driver Ronaldo Domais and his passengers Martha Nerier, Elvira Mas, Hermana Lasquety, Evelynda Encinas, Lilibeth Pasamba, Pedrito Gacia, Jenny Balbalosa, and Rowena Lopera.

Domais and the SUV driver Alvin Castillo, who also suffered injuries, were brought to the Gumaca District Hospital while the jeepney’s passengers were taken to the Doña Martha District Hospital and Emil Joanna General Hospital, investigator PO2 Oliver Andrey said.

The incident occurred around 10:40 a.m. at Brgy. Angles.

Castillo’s Nissan Frontier Navara (ZSH-727) suddenly swerved at the left portion of the highway so it hit the approaching jeepney (DJG-580) driven by Domais, Andrey said. (John Roson)
