Fifteen people, including three children, were injured when the passenger van they were riding fell into a canal in Kiamba, Sarangani, police reported.
The injured included Datudido Ali, Camelon Anlunag, Akmad Mangelen, Kashim mangelen, Lamya Paco, Lydia Valayo, Rosita Butac, Hadji Dialita Tato, Sambra Antao, Elito Bayabos, Lorena Deperia, and Merlyn Malabi.
Also injured were Syra Antao, 5, Leezer Kin Deperia, 5, and Rafia Chin Deperia, 3.
They were all brought to the Maitum District Hospital and later transferred to General Santos City for further treatment, except the Deperias, Soccsksargen regional police spokesman Supt. Resty Damaso said.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, while Willie Mendoza, 67, was driving the passenger Hyundai van (MVU-692) along the National Highway in Brgy. Luma.
“The steering wheel suddenly locked, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle which sideswiped the left road railing and fell down on the embankment near the bridge,” Damaso said, citing initial investigation. (John Roson)
