Three people, including two children, got killed while at least five others were injured when a passenger jeepney turned turtle in Butuan City early Saturday, police said.
Senior Supt. Jose Carillo, city police director, identified the fatalities as Alfredo Aspirin, 13; Esterlita Claraval, 42, and her daughter Jane Christ, 7.
Jeepney driver Lauro Alvarez, 46, was slightly injured and was taken into police custody after the incident while passengers Arnold Baghari, 31, and Maurecio Adtoon, 23, also suffered minor injuries.
Hermenia Redoble, 44, also a passenger, was confined at the MJ Santos Hospital.
The incident occurred at Purok 3, Brgy. Amparo, around 7:30 a.m.
“Nag-turn turtle ‘yung jeep na may mga karga din daw na corn… It was a big jeepney which they call a mini-bus. Nag-malfunction daw ang preno according to the driver,” Carillo said in a text message.
Members of the Butuan City Police Station 5 are still investigating the incident and determining the driver’s liability, Carillo said. (John Roson)
