Five soldiers were injured in a clash with New People’s Army (NPA) members in Monkayo, Compostela Valley, early Saturday, military officials said.
The clash occurred at Sitio Kalinugan, Brgy. Casoon, around 2:35 a.m. Col. Leopoldo Galon, AFP Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman, said.
Members of the 25th Infantry Battalion were landmined by about five rebels so the troops retaliated and a five-minute firefight ensued, Galon said in a text message.
Lieutenant Col. Lyndon Paniza, Army 10th Infantry Division spokesman, identified those injured as Pfc. Jimmy Bayta Jr., Pfc. Ryan Sharif Embo, Pfc. Jumel Pabua, Cpl. Teodoro Gabais, and Pfc. Michael Digman.
A platoon of soldiers reinforced those who were attacked and evacuated the injured to the hospital, Galon said. (John Roson)
