Police have ordered a relentless search for the suspect in the killing of a 13-year-old girl, who is also believed to have been raped, in Butuan City.

Senior Supt. Jose Carillo, Butuan City Police director, said they already have a suspect in the killing of Darienne Drew Taonon but declined to reveal more information so the manhunt will not be jeopardized.

Taonon, a First Year student of the Maguinda National High School, was found around 7 a.m. Thursday at a grassy area in Purok 5, Brgy. Maguinda.

The victim had a gaping wound on her neck, while her jogging pants were worn only one leg, leading police to suspect that she was raped.

Ibig sabihin, ibinaba,” Carillo said.

Taonon was last seen alive at her school Wednesday morning, when she asked her teacher’s permission to go home early so she can help her mother in harvest coconuts.

“Since then hindi na siya (Taonon) nakauwi kaya nag-worry na ‘yung magulang niya,” Carillo said. It was Taonon’s uncle Socrates and aunt Marille who found her body the next day. (John Roson)
