Five people, including a teenage boy, got killed while one was injured when the motorcycle they were riding smashed into a tree in San Enrique, Iloilo, Saturday night, police said.

Killed were the motorcycle’s driver, Aron Casamayor, and his “backriders” Arbie Maritana, Jennel Sucaldito, Michael Angelo Satunero, all of Brgy. Madarag; and Warren Palmes, 15, of Passi City, Senior Supt. Gil Lebin, Iloilo provincial police director, said.

The five were taken to a hospital in Passi City, but were all declared dead on arrival by doctors, Lebin said in a text message.

Rogelio Albasete, the fifth “backrider” of the motorcycle, was also brought to the same hospital because of his injuries but was later referred to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City, the police official said.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. while Casamayor was driving the motorcycle from Passi to Brgy. Madarag.

The vehicle smashed into a talisay tree while it was passing through Brgy. Asisig, Lebin said.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the accident, he said. (John Roson)
