Armed men kidnapped an Australian man from his home in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Monday evening, police officials said.
Seven armed men took Warren Richard Rodwell from his house at Lot 21, Blk. 4, Green Meadows Subdivision in Brgy. Pangi, Director Felicisimo Khu, head of the PNP Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Western Mindanao, said.
Rodwell’s kidnappers tied his hands before taking him towards the forested area of Upper Brgy. Pangi, Chief Superintendent Elpidio de Asis, Zamboanga Peninsula regional police director, said.
Rodwell, in his 50s, “may have sustained an injury as there were blood stains found” at the crime scene, Khu said.
Investigators are checking information that Rodwell (spelled as Roduel in other reports) is a retired soldier, De Asis said.
Police are also looking at several websites and webpages referring to a Warren Rodwell, who had taught English in China and traveled in several countries around the world including the Philippines. (John Roson)
