An agrarian reform officer was found dead inside his office in Tabaco City, Albay, Friday morning in an apparent case of suicide, police said.
Senior Supt. William Macavinta, Albay Provincial Police director, said Engr. Escolastico Monilla Jr., was last seen alive 9 p.m. Thursday while entering the local Department of Agrarian Reform office in Brgy. Baranghawon.
“Nakarinig na lang ng putok ng baril around 3 a.m., na-discover siya (Monilla) around 9 a.m.,” Macavinta said in a phone interview.
The 56-year-old Monilla, a resident of Brgy. Bagumbayan, Ligao City, suffered a bullet wound on the head.
“Suicide ang nakikita natin dito,” Macavinta said, adding that Monilla’s caliber-.9mm pistol was found near the body and initial probe results showed that the shot was fired “at close range.”
The police official, however, said investigators have yet to determine why Monilla would take his own life.
“Pinapa-background ko pa sa chief of police (ng Tabaco) kung may problema ba siya (Monilla) sa opisina or may nakalaban,” Macavinta said. (John Roson)
