Three young children got killed when fire razed their hut in a far-flung village in Milagros, Masbate, early Monday, police said.

Senior Supt. Heriberto Olitoquit, Masbate provincial police director, identified the fatalities as siblings Ian, 4, Marjorie, 2, and IZ Alba, 10 months old.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. while the children were sleeping inside their home in Sitio Imbudo, Brgy. Jamorawon.

A kerosene lamp fell on the bariw mat (banig) inside the hut, causing the blaze, Olitoquit said in a text message.

The children’s father, Teodoro Alba, and his wife Josephine were then at their ricefield to cultivate crops, the police official said. (John Roson)
