Former Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr. has been discharged from the Armed Forces Medical Center after paying a discounted bill and will be returned to his cell soon, an official of the facility said.
Ampatuan left the military hospital around 11:15 a.m. after paying P60,933 for the hospital bill, Lizzie de Jesus, public affairs officer of the AFP Medical Center, said.
The bill was actually P76,167, but is was cut by 20 percent because Ampatuan is a “senior citizen,” she said.
After leaving the hospital, Ampatuan was set to go to the Philippine Heart Center for a CT scan, after which he will be brought to back to detention, De Jesus said.
“There is a court order for the CT scan,” De Jesus said, adding that Ampatuan appeared “pleasant” while leaving.
Ampatuan, a suspect in the Nov. 2009 killing of 57 people in Maguindanao, was let out from the Metro Manila District Jail in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, on March 9 after reportedly vomitting blood.
He was first taken to the Taguig-Pateros Hospital, but the establishment reportedly had limited facilities so the former governor was transferred to the AFP Medical Center in Quezon City. (John Roson)
