A diarrhea outbreak in Salvador, Lanao del Norte, has killed seven people and infected 43 others, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
Health authorities in Northern Mindanao declared an outbreak of the disease, which is believed to have been contracted by drinking water from the Maranding River, the NDRRMC said in a report.
The fatalities, all residents of Brgy. Calimodan, were identified as Rocon Ayonan, 60; Tomie Angco, 50; Arsa Ampaso Tomanto, 48; Balilling Pendatun, 1; Paisah Ampaso, 1; Norhasim Acod, 11 months; and Nasib Ampaso, 7 months.
Eighteen people, of whom 11 are minors, are confined in different hospitals while 25 others were treated as out-patients.
Authorities have provided water treatment, medicines, consultations, and conducted water sampling in 10 sites to prevent more people from contracting the disease, the NDRRMC said. (John Roson)
