A 32-year-old Japanese woman was stabbed dead by her Filipino husband at their home in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, early Monday, police said.
Kotoka Kajii Denila, a Tokyo native, was brought by her neighbors to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital due to stab wounds on the different parts of the body, but was declared dead upon ariival by doctors, said PO2 Luisito Ernie, a homicide investigator at the Lapu-Lapu City Police.
The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. inside the Japanese woman and her 25-year-old husband Dexter Louie Denila’s home in Lot 24, Block 5, Dominique Subd., Brgy. Basak.
“The couple had a quarrel before the incident, the woman scolded her husband for going home late and arriving drunk,” Ernie said in a phone interview.
Denila eventually took a kitchen knife and stabbed his wife repeatedly.
In the middle of the commotion, the couple’s househelp, Jupel Baldosano, sought aid from neighbors who called up the police.
Denila is presently detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office after being arrested in the subdivision.
The couple’s 9-month-old child was brought to the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s local office, but was later reportedly turned over to the suspect’s brother.
Kajii’s parents are set to arrive in Lapu-Lapu City on Tuesday or Wednesday to claim her remains. (John Roson)
