The military fired 14 rockets at a New People’s Army (NPA) encampment in Kibawe, Bukidnon, on Sunday but it was not immediately known if there were casualties, a military spokesman said Monday.

Colonel Leopoldo Galon, AFP Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman, said members of the 8th Infantry Battalion clashed with rebels in Brgy. Sampaguita around 5:20 a.m. and were provided with air support by an SF260 aircraft.

The plane delivered 14 high-explosive rocket missiles against enemy positions at Sitio Nabuntoran and firefight ended around 9:20 a.m., Galon said.

Initial search on the rebels’ position resulted in the recovery of two backpacks with documents of “high intelligence value,” clothes, half a sack of repacked “puso” rice, empty shells, and damaged parts of an M16 rifle.

Troops are still conducting an assessment to determine the result of the air strike, Galon said. (John Roson)
