Police killed a suspect in the killing of Universidad de Zamboanga president Arturo Eustaquio III in a shootout in Zamboanga City early Wednesday.
Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, PNP spokesman, identified the slain suspect as Reymundo Limen alias Leleng.
Limen was one of two men on a motorcycle who traded shots with members of Zamboanga City Police Station 6 along the MCCL Highway in Brgy. Guiwan, around 1:30 a.m., Cruz said.
The motorcycle’s driver, Hermes Sarimogan, 29, was arrested, Cruz said, adding that a caliber-.45 pistol loaded with three live ammunition and two spent shells were recovered from the scene.
Eustaquio, member of an affluent family that owns Universidad de Zamboanga and the Zamboanga Arturo Eustaqio College (ZAEC) Hospital, was riding his motorcycle along Maestra Vicenta st. in Brgy. Sta Maria on Sunday, when shot by one of two men on another motorcycle.
The 63-year-old Eustaquio, a Muslim convert, was buried the next day.
Police are considering business and personal issues as possible motives for the killing. (John Roson)
