One person got killed while at least 15 others were injured when a wayward truck rammed three passenger buses and another truck in Atimonan, Quezon, early Friday, police reported.
Christopher Umbay was maneuvering his Isuzu dropside truck (RFS-167) on a descending portion of the diversion road in Brgy. Sta. Catalina around 2:20 a.m., en route from Manila to Bicol, when he allegedly lost control of the steering wheel, according to a report from the Quezon Provincial Police.
The truck hit a Superlines Bus (DXY-607) an Elf truck (ULD-868), another Superlines Bus (DXR-556) and a Raymond Bus (EVS-282), which were all running towards the opposite direction.
Ernesto Garvin Jr., 23, driver of the Elf truck, died on the spot while his helpers Abuer Teope, 54, and Rolly Llagas, 29, were both injured.
Passengers of the first Superlines Bus, identified as Jovylin Capica, Junrel Jusay, Rainee Ann Jusay, Virgilio Avila Jr., Jasper Jusay, Lolita Avila, Macela Pajarillo, Avery Ibis, Marichel Ibis, Joan Ibis, Zenaida Villamonte, Hazel Predicala, Erika Pioquinto, Lyzelda Vilamonte, and Nicole Kate Bruzula, all suffered injuries and were brought to a hospital in Lucena City.
Umbay and his helper Joan Bassi were also hurt and taken to the Doña Martha Memorial Hospital of Atimonan. (John Roson)
