Two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members were reportedly killed as government troops clashed with the rebel group in Donsol, Sorsogon, early Tuesday, a military spokesman said.
Major Angelo Guzman, Army 9th Infantry Division spokesman, said the clash erupted 5:41 a.m. and was reported to be still ongoing around 8 a.m.
Members of the 31st Infantry Battalion’s Bravo Company were patrolling in a remote village when they encountered an undetermined number of rebels, he said.
Initial field reports said two rebels were killed and there was no casualty on the government side, Guzman said.
Troops were sent to the area after the military received reports that NPA members were conducting “extortion activities” there, he added. (John Roson)
