A woman died along with her husband as she tried to shield him from a gunman inside a billiard hall in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, on Friday, police reported.

Shirley Tejero, 33, was killed by the same bullet that claimed the life of her husband Urso, 36, according to a report from the Caraga regional police.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m., while Urso was playing at a billiard hall in Purok 2, Brgy. Mabuhay.

Shirley was watching her husband play, when an unidentified man barged in and drew a firearm.

The woman noticed this, so she ran to her husband and embraced him, just as the gunman fired.

Urso got hit on the upper part of his head, but the bullet exited on the left side and eventually hit Shirley’s forehead, killing them both, the report said.

Members of the Prosperidad Police went to the scene upon learning the incident, but the suspect had already fled towards the barangay’s forested area.

Found at the scene were an empty shell and a slug believed to be from a caliber-.45 pistol.

Police are still coordinating with officials of Brgy. Mabuhay and neighboring villages to determine the gunman’s identity and whereabouts. (John Roson)
