A soldier killed himself after shooting a teacher he was allegedly courting, at a school in Miag-ao, Iloilo, early Monday.
Private John Rey Chiva, of the Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion, succumbed to a bullet wound on the forehead, according to Senior Supt. Gil Lebin, Iloilo Provincial Police director.
Before taking his own life, Chiva shot teacher Sheryll Molase, 22, at the Miag-ao West Elementary School in Brgy. Tabun-acan past 8 a.m.
The teacher, who suffered a bullet wound on the face, is presently being treated at the St. Paul’s Hospital in Iloilo City.
It was learned that before the incident, Chiva visited Molase at the school, which is in the same town where the 82nd IB’s camp is located.
Chiva and Molase had a “misunderstanding” before the shooting, Lebin said.
The soldier was reportedly wooing Molase, but the teacher was indifferent to his courtship.
“Isa ‘yun sa mga tinitingnan namin (na motibo), kung jealousy o binasted siya,” Lebin. (John Roson)
