Five people were killed while four others were seriously injured when a truck hit a group of people working at a dump site in Davao City Saturday afternoon, police said.

Senior Supt. Ronald dela Rosa, Davao City police director, said the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the dump site in Purok 2, Brgy. New Carmen, Tugbok district.

Delmar Hillazar, 23, was driving the Isuzu dump truck (GED-452), owned by Comval Tropical Fruits Inc., from Brgy. Maa to the dump site when he allegedly lost control of the steering wheel and hit nine people, Dela Rosa said.

The four injured persons were brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center and have been declared out of danger by doctors, he said.

Names of the fatalities and injured were not immediately available.

Hillazar is now under police custody and may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and physical injuries. (John Roson)
