One of two Air Force pilots missing after their trainer plane crashed in May was found dead in waters near Mariveles, Bataan, on Sunday, police said.

The body of Maj. Neil Tumaneng was found by operators of the F/B Bakery when the fishing boat was passing by La Mongha Island around 3 p.m., Senior Insp. Dennis Orbista, spokesman of the Bataan provincial police, said.

Tumaneng was still wearing his green flight suit when it was fished out of the sea, Orbista said, citing a report from the Mariveles Police.

The fishing boat’s captain Apolinario Felix, of Tanza, Navotas, brought the cadaver to Sitio Topside in Brgy. Sisiman, Mariveles, before it was brought to the Mariveles Police Station.

Tumaneng’s remains were eventually turned over to the Air Force’s 15th Strike Wing in Sangley Point, Cavite City, Orbista said.

Tumaneng and his co-pilot Lt. Michael Arugay went missing after their SF-260 trainer plane No. 716 crashed near La Mongha Island on May 18, just a few minutes after taking off from Sangley Point for a training session. (John Roson)
