A Navy helicopter involved in the search for Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo made an emergency landing in Donsol, Sorsogon, a few hours after his body was found off Masbate early Tuesday, officials said.
The Naval Air Group’s Bolkov helicopter landed along the shoreline of Brgy. Buenavista around 9 a.m., Ens. Chibar Bullos, Naval Forces Southern Luzon public information officer, said.
“Sa buhangin po nag-land… Safe naman sila (pilots and mediamen) lahat,” Bullos said in a phone interview.
Those in the helicopter were identified as pilots Lt Colita Rowene, Ltjg. Nelson dela Cruz Alquiza, AD3 Rodrigo Gernale, AD2 Leo Calmante, and Danny Pata, a photographer of the Manila Standard, Sorsogon Provincial Police director Senior Supt. John Jambora said.
“The helicopter incurred slight engine trouble… [It] remains intact and will be inspected to determine the cause,” Navy spokesman Col. Omar Tonsay said.
The helicopter, which bears the number 105, is part of the Navy’s contingent to Task Force Kalihim, the multi-agency unit formed to search for Robredo and the pilots of his crashed Piper Seneca plane, Tonsay said. (John Roson)
