Police arrested a Korean national wanted for kidnapping-for-ransom charges in Cebu during an operation at a ferry terminal in Matnog, Sorsogon, Friday night.
Operatives of the PNP Anti Kidnapping Group (AKG) from Camp Crame and Matnog Police arrested Kim Jong Seok at the Matnog Ferry Terminal in Brgy. Caloocan around 9:10 p.m., according to a report from the Sorsogon Provincial Police.
The arrest was carried out on a warrant issued by Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 18 Judge Gilbert Moises for violation of the Revised Penal Code’s Article 267 or kidnapping-for-ransom, the report said.
Kim, Choi Se Yong, and two unidentified Koreans were charged in September 2011 for kidnapping fellow Korean Kwon Young Hoon, 28, the month before.
Kwon was abducted just a few hours after he arrived in Cebu for a vacation, held captive in an apartment in Lapu-Lapu City, and was freed two days later after paying $7,000. (John Roson)
