Armed men tied up a man and shot him dead in front of a barangay (village) chairman’s house in Matnog, Sorsogon, Saturday noon, police reported.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, was shot in front of the residence of Brgy. Lajong chairman Jose Gillego around 12:50 p.m., according to a report from the Sorsogon Provincial Police.

Three unidentified men tied up the man’s hands, asked residents about his identity, and shot him to death before fleeing, the report said.

Local police conducted a pursuit operation upon learning the shooting, but it was not immediately known if anyone was arrested.

The victim, described as wearing a white shirt and brown checked short pants, was brought to Funeraria Labalan for autopsy.

It was not the first time for armed men to kill someone near a barangay chairman’s home in Matnog.

On September 11, two armed men forcibly took Minda Gargallo from a house in Brgy. Mambajog, brought her near the home of barangay chairman Denver Gerero, and shot her there, according to a previous police report.

Police have yet to determine the suspects’ identities and whether the two killings are related. (John Roson)
