Armed men shot dead a National Irrigation Administration (NIA) official in front of the agency’s office in Rosales, Pangasinan, early Wednesday, police said.

Ben Brigania, a NIA “watermaster,” expired while being treated at the Del Carmen Hospital for a bullet wound on the lower abdomen, Supt. Jovencio Badua, Ilocos regional police spokesman, said.

The shooting occurred around 7:35 a.m. while Brigania was sitting inside the waiting shed of the NIA office in Brgy. Tomana East.

Brigania had just signed on the NIA office guardhouse’s log book, when two men on a motorcycle passed by and shot him once, Badua said.

The assailants were seen fleeing towards the east after the shooting.

A companion brought Brigania to the hospital, but the latter expired around 8:35 a.m. (John Roson)
