An Australian national is presently detained in San Vicente, Ilocos Sur, for posting a sex video of him and his wife on Facebook, allegedly because of his repeated failure to secure an immigrant visa.

Michael John Caroll, 55, has been charged at the provincial prosecutor’s office for violating Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004, Senior Supt. Noel Amoyen, Ilocos Sur Provincial Police director, said.

Caroll’s 36-year-old wife earlier told authorities that the Australian posted on Facebook a video of him and her having sex.

Video reached Rome

The video was posted Saturday and was allegedly seen in Rome, Italy, by the woman’s relatives, who phoned and informed her about the clip, Amoyen said.

“Nagagalit ‘yung kamag-anak nitong asawa niya (Caroll)… kamag-anak nung babae ‘yung nakakita sa Rome pa eh, so tinawagan itong babae. Di pa alam nung babae noon,” Amoyen said in a phone interview.

He said the woman went to the San Vicente Police Station on Sunday to seek assistance, but was followed by Caroll.

Cops badmouthed

The Australian confronted his wife at the station and a heated argument ensued, so policemen there intervened, Amoyen said.

“We advised him (Caroll) to cool off but instead he uttered to us unsavory words, to quote: ‘Filipinos fucking idiots, you all shit,’ and acted arrogantly against us,” a part of the San Vicente Police report read.

This prompted the lawmen to seize Caroll and bring him to the detention cell.

Amoyen said police also plan to charge Caroll for badmouthing not only policemen, but all Filipinos as well.

“Tatawagan ko ‘yung hepe doon para isali rin ito, kasi mahirap naman kung ginaganito lang tayo,” he said.

Visa failure

Investigators, meanwhile, believe Caroll’s actions stemmed from his repeated failure to acquire an immigrant visa from the Bureau of Immigration (BoI).

“Wala siyang trabaho daw dito at kulang ang pera na kanyang pinapakita. Kailangan sana, may maipakita ka na pera na gagastusin mo kung magiging immigrant ka dito… tatlong beses nang na-turndown ‘yung application niya sa BoI sa Laoag, San Fernando, saka sa Manila, pagkatapos noon eh galit na galit na raw,” Amoyen said.

Caroll eventually vented his frustration on his wife, who he reportedly asked to “fix” his visa application, Amoyen said. (John Roson)
