One person was killed while another was injured when a concrete slab carried by a crane fell on bridge builders in Sorsogon City, Wednesday afternoon, police reported.
Pablo Lana, 40, died when the concrete girder hit him on the head while fellow laborer Raymund Mirabueno, 26, suffered injuries on the right leg and was brought to the hospital, according to a report from the Sorsogon Provincial Police.
Lana and Mirabueno are both residents of Brgy. Taisan in Legaspi City, Albay.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. while workers were busy building the bridge in Sitio Madarag, Brgy. Guinlajon, with the help of a crane operated by Fernando Orjula, 37.
“The crane was on the process of transferring the concrete girder at the edge of the bridge when the boom line suddenly broke, causing the concrete girder to fall,” the report said.
Orjula, a resident of Sipocot, Camarines Sur, is now under the custody of the Sorsogon City Police. (John Roson)
