The town mayor of Lupi, Camarines Sur, died at the hospital early Sunday after being shot in Naga City on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Mayor Raul Matamorosa expired at the Mother Seton Hospital around 1:20 a.m. and was later brought to the St. Peter Chapel, Bicol regional police spokesman Supt. Renato Bataller said.

Matamorosa, 45, was shot at the back of the head while having his television repaired at the Double B electronics shop in ALDC bldg. along the Diversion Road around 3:45 pm. Saturday.

“Pabalik na siya (Matamorosa) sa Innova niya para siguro kumuha ng pambayad nung sundan ng suspect. Inabangan talaga siya doon,” Bataller said in a phone interview.

The gunman was later seen boarding a tricycle, where two other men were waiting, according to the regional police spokesman.

Responding policemen found at the scene an empty shell of the caliber-.45 pistol used by the gunman.

Bataller said that after the shooting, police formed “Special Investigation Task Group Matamorosa” which is now looking at “several” possible motives for the killing.

“Puwedeng politika, personal, or dun sa trabaho niya (Matamorosa),” he said, adding that investigators have also come up with cartographic sketches of two suspects. (John Roson)
