The former vice mayor running for a seat in La Union’s Provincial Board died in the hospital Tuesday, a day after being shot in Agoo, police said.
Atty. Lazaro Gayo, 62, expired at the Lorma Medical Center around 11:50 a.m., Ilocos regional police spokesman Supt. Jovencio Badua said, citing information from the Agoo Police.
Gayo, a resident and former vice mayor of Tubao, was running as 1st District member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
He was shot while sitting inside his law office in Brgy. Consolacion around 9 a.m. Monday.
Police found at the scene two empty shells and a slug of the caliber-.45 pistol used by the gunman.
Badua said police have formed “Special Investigation Task Group Gayo,” which is now looking at possible motives for the killing.
The suspect has been described as having a medium built, short hair, fair complexion, wearing a white t-shirt, and was estimated to be aged 35 or older. (John Roson)
