Two Army troopers and a retired soldier were killed after the motorcycles they were riding collided with each other in Mambusao, Capiz, Sunday night, authorities said.

Msgt. Charlie Quicoy, 52, a first sergeant at the Army 3rd Infantry Division headquarters in Camp Peralta, Jamindan, died while being brought to the hospital, Senior Supt. Domingo Cabillan, Capiz Provincial Police director, said.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. while Quicoy was driving his motorcycle in Brgy. Caidquid.

Maj. Enrico Ileto, Army 3rd ID spokesman, said Quicoy and his backrider, retired Army member Beltran Solmayor, came from the camp and were heading towards Iloilo when they collided with another motorcycle driven by Pfc. Allan Alarba.

Quicoy, assigned at the “post engineering detachment” which supervises construction works inside Camp Peralta, was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the Mambusao District Hospital, Ileto said.

Solmayor and Alarba were brought to the Iloilo Mission Hospital and Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City, respectively, but both expired around 2 a.m. Monday, Ileto said.

He said Maj. Gen. Jose Mabanta, commander of the 3rd ID, called for a conference yesterday to discuss the incident and ordered an investigation.

When asked if there was any indication that the soldiers were intoxicated, Ileto said: “The investigation will cover all angles.” (John Roson)
