Six alleged members of a group engaged in hired killings and robberies were killed when they shot it out with policemen in Calamba City, Laguna, Monday morning, a police official said.
Chief Supt. James Melad, Calabarzon regional police director, said intelligence operatives and Calamba City police encountered the six in Brgy. Lecheria between 8:30 and 9 a.m.
“Matagal na itong minamanmanan, actually iniiexpect nga ng tropa na dalawang sasakyan ang gagamitin… nakatanggap kami ng information na may titirahin sila, may papatayin,” Melad said in a phone interview.
The regional police chief, however, said the names of the slain have yet to be ascertained.
Five of the six, who were on a Toyota Innova (TDI-214), died on the spot while the other expired on the way to a local hospital.
Police recovered from the scene three caliber-.45 pistols, a caliber-.9mm handgun, and an M16 armalite rifle, Melad said.
“Gun-for-hire at robbery-holdup group ito, nag-ooperate sila sa Batangas at Laguna, minsan umaabot pa nga ng Quezon,” he added. (John Roson)
