Two people, including a young girl, were killed while nine others were injured when a gasoline container exploded in San Narciso, Quezon, police reported.
The incident in Sitio Poras, Brgy. Abuyon, occurred around 4:40 p.m. on Nov. 3 but was reported only 1:30 p.m. Monday, PO3 Isagani Delos Santos, investigator at the San Narciso Police, said.
Reslie Ann Rivano, 12, died on the spot while Irma Pinid, 26, expired at the Quezon Medical Center (QMC) in Lucena City, Delos Santos said in his report.
Businessman Rolando Espelita, 36, was playing cards with several people at his sari-sari store when he playfully lighted a gasoline container, which suddenly exploded, Delos Santos said.
Injured were Espelita’s wife Medelyn, 34, sons Kim Andrew, 10, and Kim Rolan, 12, as well as card game buddies Gracia Rivano, 24; Edna Rivano, 26; Radel Tamo, 27; Imat Pinid, 28; Ronald Valdeveja, 29; Jodie Rivano, 60.
All were taken to the Dr. Jay Reynoso Clinic in Mulanay but were transferred to QMC.
The explosion also caused about P5,000 worth of damage to the sari-sari store.
Espelita, who can be charged with negligence resulting to two counts of homicide and multiple serious physical injuries and damage to property, remains at large, Delos Santos said. (John Roson)
