The Ilocos regional police leadership has removed from his post the police chief of Tubao, La Union, over unsolved killings and other crimes.
Chief Supt. Franklin Jesus Bucayu, Ilocos regional police director, announced Senior Insp. Luis Liban’s relief on Monday.
“Liban will face an inquiry board organized and activated by the La Union Police Provincial Office to determine if there were lapses in the discharging of his duties and responsibilities,” Bucayu said in a statement.
Incidents that occurred during Liban’s term include the failed ambush on Tubao Mayor Dante Garcia and the killing of barangay kagawad Rodolfo Estoque and Atty. Lazaro Gayo, a former vice mayor who was running for a seat in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
“The town has been adversely affected by the growing number of unsolved killings and other crime incidents that happened in the past two months,” Bucayu said.
Liban was replaced by Senior Insp. Benigno Sumawang, who will serve as officer-in-charge while performing as human resource development officer of the La Union Provincial Police. (John Roson)
