Four members of a family were found dead inside a septic tank on Wednesday after being hacked and stabbed at their home in Cagayan de Oro City, a police official said.

Senior Supt. Gerardo Rosales, Cagayan de Oro City Police director, identified the victims as Christopher Lastimosa, his wife Lea, their children Chanlee, 6, and Christian, 8.

The bodies were discovered inside the septic tank of the Lastimosas’ home in Zone 4 Agong, Brgy. Canitoan, past 10 a.m., Rosales said in a phone interview.

Earlier, a certain Chona Pepito sought police assistance after seeing traces of blood at the house’s living room, according to a radio report.

“Nung mag-investigate na ‘yung mga pulis natin, doon na nakita ‘yung mga bodies sa septic tank,” Rosales said.

He said police have taken into custody Arman Abuyen, who was seen roaming around the house’s vicinity during the investigation.

Abuyen, who served as Christopher Lastimosa’s helper at a machine shop, is suspected of being involved in the massacre because of the wounds found on his hands, Rosales said.

Investigators believe that three other persons connived with Abuyen to kill the Lastimosas.

It is believed that the massacre happened between 1 and 2 a.m. Monday, when neighbors heard a commotion and Christopher shouting, Rosales said.

Abuyen has denied any involvement in the incident, according to the police official. (John Roson)
