Authorities seized a truckload of explosives similar to those being used by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte, on Monday, police said.

The explosives include 10 sacks of ammonium nitrate, 10 boxes of “superdyne” explosives, and 1,000 meters of fuse wire, Caraga regional police spokesman Supt. Martin Gamba said.

Members of the Cabadbaran City Police and Army Special Forces found the explosives, along with 10 helmets, five safety vests, and two raincoats in Purok-2, Brgy. Mahaba, around 7 a.m.

Initial investigation indicated that a farm tractor, allegedly owned by Satya Mining Corporation, was carrying the items but was abandoned by the operator when it malfunctioned, Gamba said.

Rebels operating in the area could have used the explosives if these were not immediately recovered, the regional police spokesman warned.

The explosives are similar to those recovered by the Special Forces from an NPA camp in Puting Bato, Cabadbaran City, last March, Gamba said. (John Roson)
